CHILDREN and ILLNESS

Updated: Jan 28

This is Rose having her requested kale, kefir, and banana smoothie! She’s barely eaten anything for 5 days because of flu, this is the first thing she’s requested! - Her body clearly knows what it wants after such an illness.

For the past few days, the kids have been really ill with the flu. Symptoms being high temperature, aching body, exhausted, dry cough, headache, hurting ears, difficulty sleeping then sleeping loads, total loss of appetite, tummy pain, feeling sick and then actually sick!!!

In the past, I’d want my children back to “health” as quickly as possible, reaching for the Calpol to bring down their temperature, children’s paracetamol for the headaches and visit the Dr’s where antibiotics would have been prescribed for the ears. However, becoming a GAPS Coach and gaining a better understanding of how the body works, has taught me that fever is good 👍 - it should be celebrated 🎉.

Dr. Natasha’s opening words about fever in her blue book - Gut & Physiology Syndrome

(P52) (link to the right) states ...

- “Bless the fever! Fever is good for us! It is a major tool our immune system uses for killing disease-causing microbes, destroying toxins and removing cancer cells. If you have a fever for a few days and do not interfere with it, but allow your body to run high temperature for as long as it needs to, you clean your body, remove chronic infections, prevent cancer formation and rejuvenate yourself” - OUR BODY IS AMAZING!

Our little one’s immune system is immature and develops, adjusts and learns with the first illnesses in childhood. My children are now 8 and 10 and I wished I’d have known this before they were born. Giving our children drugs leads to a disturbed immune system with the risk of autoimmune diseases and allergies!

Having this knowledge made it easier not to reach for the drugs. I used cold flannels for their forehead and feet to help with the temperature, sips of water, boiled water cooled to warm with a squeeze of lemon and a teaspoon of manuka honey, sips of homemade chicken stock which is packed with healing amino acids and nutrients - nursing them back to health the “old fashioned” way! Build that immunity and stay well everyone 😘
